• Minimum Age to Train: 3 years old. Students aged 3–5 must be enrolled in a parent-participation class, with a parent or guardian serving as their training partner. Children aged 5-12 must be able to participate independently within their age group and follow adult instruction in a close-contact setting.
  
  

• Communication Note: We utilize text messaging for critical, time-sensitive updates (inclement weather closures, schedule changes) and a weekly academy update. We value your time and average only one update text per week. While you may opt out at any time, we highly recommend staying opted in to ensure you receive vital safety and facility information.

RELEASE OF LIABILITY, WAIVER, INDEMNIFICATION, AND MEMBERSHIP AGREEMENT

1. Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability

In consideration for being allowed to participate in martial arts training, fitness activities, and related programming offered by Bowie Jiu-Jitsu Academy (the “Academy”), I, the undersigned, on behalf of myself and/or any minor child named below:

• Acknowledge that activities involving physical contact, grappling, or intense movement carry inherent risk of injury, including but not limited to sprains, broken bones, head injury, paralysis, or death.

• Understand that these risks may arise from my own actions, those of others, or from equipment or facilities conditions.

• Voluntarily assume all risks, both known and unknown, even if arising from the negligence of others.

• I waive, release, and discharge the Academy, its owners, officers, instructors, staff, landlords, lessors, affiliates, agents, and contractors (the “Releasees”) from any and all liability, claims, or demands arising from participation, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

2. Indemnification

I agree to hold harmless and indemnify the Releasees from any claims, liabilities, or costs (including attorney’s fees) resulting from my participation or the participation of my child in any program at the Academy.

3. Fitness to Participate and Emergency Authorization

I affirm that I (or my child) am physically fit to engage in martial arts and fitness training. I understand that it is my responsibility to consult with a physician before participating. I authorize the Academy to obtain emergency medical treatment on my behalf if necessary.

4. Media Release

I grant permission for the Academy to use photos, videos, or other recordings of myself or my child for marketing or promotional purposes without compensation.

5. Severability

If any provision of this agreement is found to be invalid, the remainder shall remain enforceable to the fullest extent permitted by Maryland law.

6. Membership Terms and Tuition

I understand and agree to the following:

• Membership begins immediately after any trial period ends unless cancellation is submitted in writing before that point.

• Monthly tuition is billed on a recurring automatic basis until a formal cancellation request is processed in accordance with Section 7.

• There are no refunds, freezes, or prorated credits for missed classes, illness, injury, vacations, temporary gym closures, or any other reason. I am responsible for managing my own attendance.

• Late payments will incur a $7.50 late fee, and additional administrative fees apply for returned or declined payments.

7. Cancellation Policy

I understand that Bowie Jiu-Jitsu Academy has no long-term contracts and features an easy 30-day cancellation notice policy.

• The Rule: To cancel, simply send a written notice via email or text message at least 30 days prior to your next scheduled billing date. If your notice is received within this 30-day window, that upcoming payment will be your final automated payment.

• Access to Train: You are fully cleared and welcome to train through the end of your final paid billing cycle. No immediate stop-payments or mid-cycle cut-offs are permitted.

EXAMPLE: If  you text us to cancel on February 23rd, and your next monthly payment date is March 15th (less than 30 days before the next bill), your final payment occurs on March 15th, and you can train all the way until April 14th.

8. Consumer Rights (Maryland Health Club Services Act)

Under Maryland law, you have the right to cancel this agreement within three (3) business days of signing. This must be done in writing and submitted in person, by email, or certified mail.

• If you become injured or disabled for three (3) months or more and provide written verification from a licensed physician, you may cancel without penalty.

• If the facility closes for more than 30 consecutive days for reasons within the Academy's control, you are entitled to either an extension or a proportional partial refund, at the Academy’s discretion.

9. Additional Terms

• Class schedules and instructions may be modified by the Academy. Short-term closures for holidays, special events, or facility maintenance do not affect tuition obligations.

• All belt promotions are based on attendance, conduct, technical execution, and instructor approval. Rank is strictly earned, not guaranteed.

• Disrespectful, unsafe, or unhygienic behavior may result in immediate termination of membership at the Academy’s discretion, with any prepaid amounts refunded proportionally.

• This agreement is non-transferable.

• Billing communications may include financial details and will be delivered to the email or phone number on file.

ACKNOWLEDGMENT AND SIGNATURE

I certify that I am at least 18 years old and legally authorized to sign this agreement, either for myself or on behalf of the minor participant. I have had the opportunity to ask any questions about the content of this agreement before signing.

I have read this agreement in full. I understand its terms and voluntarily agree to be bound by them. I acknowledge that by signing this document, I am waiving certain legal rights, including the right to sue.
